A:  Hi Jenna, The information provided by Sarah from Kohler is INCORRECT. I just found out the hard way. I just tried to install the Clearflo Cable Bath drain K-7213 onto my new Elmbrook tub (K-R23217-LA), but the cable is way too long and would not work. I went with this specific drain because it is what is recommended in the Kohler website for the Elmbrook tub K-R23217-LA). After noticing that the cable was too long, I went back to look at the specifications on their website and this is what is says for the Clearflow drain "For baths 14" (356 mm) to 21" (533 mm) deep from the center of the bath overflow outlet to the center of the bath drain outlet." The Elmbrook tub is 11 1/16". I'm going call Kohler after the holiday weekend, and hopefully they will right this wrong.

A:  Yes, I installed this exact drain on a 5ft kohler bancroft tub and had no issues with it. It has been 2 years and no issues. Just make sure you set the adjustment screw and nut underneath the stopper at an appropriate height. I initially did not and thought it was draining too slow, once I raised the seat height of the stopper, it now flows just as good as any other tub drain and looks sleek.

Q:Would I be able to use a snake or equivalent clean out tool in case of clogged drain?

                    Answer This Question

A:  Hi, this is Laura with Kohler Co. I am happy to assist you with your question. A clogged drain is typically presented in the first section of the drain, below the stopper. The toggle is removed when the stopper is pulled out. A bent wire or similar tool with a hook on the end would be the best tool to clean out the drain as it is typically a hair and soap build-up below the stopper. A snake may cause damage if used in the drain. Thank you for choosing KOHLER.

A:  Yes, I have had to do this already. I have a wife and two daughters with long hair. I think I remember having ran the snake through the tub drain but can't 1000% confirm that. However, I definetly remember a separate occassion where I carefully removed the overflow drain cap and ran the snake down the overflow pipe. Utlimately the overflow pipe is directly connected to the drain pipe and does just as good as a job. In my experience, most clogs are not located in those first few inches of pipe.
