Q:Why does my orchid produce an over abundance
Of roots/
by|Aug 28, 2021

Answer This Question
A: Because orchids are epiphytes, meaning they grow without soil. Many grown in the crotches of tropical trees and get nutrition from leaves, insects, etc. They get rained upon multiple times a day and dry quickly. Be careful that you do not over water your orchid, their feet do not like to be wet all of the time. That is why and ice cube is enough. I mist my orchids and spray with a fertilizer! Good Luck!

Q:can you plant ochid in the yard
by|May 12, 2021

Answer This Question
A: Phalaenopsis orchids are epiphytes, meaning in nature they tend to grow on the surface of other plants and derive moisture and nutrients from the air and immediate surroundings. We use a special bark instead of potting soil to mimic this. These plants also require a tropical temperature and moisture environment which most of the United States is unsuitable for. With this in mind we do not recommend planting your orchid in the yard, but appreciate your question!

A: Put it in a jar of water (while it's still in the container) for about 15-25 minutes depending on how dry it is. Be careful not to get water between the leaves (if you do, use a paper towel to dry them the spaces off. Orchids tend to be prone to diseases but keeping the spaces between the leaves dry and using clean tools should ensure everything goes smoothly).

A: Google 'American Orchid Society' and follow their expert advice.

A: No, do not keep it as you received it. In general, if your orchids tend to dry out too often, use plastic pots rather than clay and use a fine potting mix.
