A: These spikes do not drive your watering schedule, that is driven by your soil and evaporation rate of your garden environment. Typically I water to keep the soil moist when the plants are developing. Later on depending on the evaporation rate you may end up watering one or two times a day. Remember, tomatoes are mostly water therefore you don't want them to dry out, but you also don't want them sitting in a pool of water.

A: I irrigate weather dependent but every day. If it’s dry and windy 20 min if it’s raining 5 . I use leaky hose ( Home Depot) and cover the row in 6 mil black plastic( Home Depot ) I use 2 spikes for each tomato, pepper , and eggplant about 3 inches from the roots. If it’s super hot ( 90 +) I may water 30 min in that row. Jobs is great for direct feed , still I add a cup of green sand per 10 ft for micro nutrients and in the winter I add 2 yds of mushroom compost per 100 ft row. Hope this helps!

A: From Better Homes and Garden:
If you keep them dry, though, they can be stored indefinitely. Keep the fertilizer in its original bag or container so there's no question about what it is. If the bag or canister has been opened, wrap the remaining fertilizer tightly in plastic to exclude moisture.

A: Yes, they do not degrade.

A: I did the same thing. I had 5 left over and used them on 3 new plants. I don't know if it is because the steady warm weather was late in starting or what... But they DO NOT seem to be working like they usually do. I don't recommend holding them over and I don't think I would do it again.

A: Yes, as long as they have been kept away from moisture they are still good. There is no expiration date for these spikes.

A: Just use one and only at the time of planting...otherwise you will end up with lots of leaves and few tomatoes.
