Q:Can holes be drilled through this tile To hand towel racks.

Answer This Question

A:  I don't see any problem with drilling thru this for a towel rack. Make sure to screw into a stud.

by|Nov 12, 2018

A:  I have not tried this but I would make sure to use the space where the grout is and or start with a small drill hole to begin but again I recommend that on the backside of tile I would pack it completely full of mortar no matter what.

      Answer This Question

A:  They come in packs. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly. But the description reads 12 x 12 x 8 so I'm assuming there are 8 in the pack. Hope this helps.

A:  They come 10 in a pak so they are a little expensive but well worth it and you can cut in between the lines for different sizes you like, I have used them in both directions and on the floor and walls, its like having shiny chrome where you want and it never gets old and goes with just about any counter top or tile you use. The price is per piece.

A:  Even though its aluminum it has swirl marks on it so a light scrub with just good soap like Dawn or Ajax should work with a Scotchbrite sponge should be fine.

A:  The biggest problem you will encounter with splattered grease will be on the grout. You need to make sure the grout is sealed with a penetrating sealer. If grease does get splattered onto the metal pieces just wipe them with a sponge or maybe even use windex to clean them. Do not use anything acidic to clean these metal pieces.

A:  This will not change on a shower wall.

A:  I answered earlier and wanted you to know the importance of packing the back of tile, if its not packed water can seep through and have pockets of water that can't dry right so fill it up in the hollow areas.

                by|Feb 12, 2020

A:  It should not but please fill in the back of tile with mortar where the openings are covered with the plastic completely, it makes for a better fit especially if you might just use 4 or 6 lines of the aluminum and it also when filled would keep any water from seeping in.

A:  You need edging material in brushed stainless.

                        by|May 4, 2023

A:  There are several possible means to take care of the edges. First is to use the same grout you use to fill the gaps between the pieces. Talk to Depot personnel if you haven't grouted before - they will tell you how to do it, the tools needed, and how to mix small batches (the consistency of peanut butter is a good guideline). You also with this product use chrome automotive self adhesive moldings available at most automotive outlets like Auto Zone. For a professional job you may want to grout the molding in - just make sure the places where you adhese the molding(s) is clean, smooth and dry. You also can use other kinds of tile - be sure to leave 1/8' to 1/4" space between them for grouting. a butt fit on leaves a gap that will hold dirt or moisture - not a good thing.

A:  Use an electric tile cutter that uses water so you can get precision cuts.

A:  wet tile saw......the trick is to let the saw do its job and not push the mosaic thru to fast. Pushing the mosaic will cause the blade to bind up.

                            by|May 3, 2023

A:  This is a very general answer since I am only reporting what my installer did. He used a wet saw. I know he had to swap out to a sharper blade, but not sure of the details. Use a professional tile installer who has the equipment. Matching the grain and cutting the small pieces where the mosaic in never was very challenging - even for a pro.

A:  The best way is to use a water saw with a 4" diamond saw wheel. If you anticipate doing more jobs in the future this is the way to go. Depot has many different model saws with price commensurate with features and strength. A scoring/breaker tool won't work as the aluminum pieces will only distort with this tool. A small tool using a carborundum wheel can be used as this will cut both materials. Dremel makes a tool and Depot has them. Roto Zip is another tool but more expensive.

A:  Morter mix called Versabond LFT, extra dollars for better stuff. I would use the smaller trowel that have smaller openings. I use a small plastic cheapy flat to spread it on back and fill in gaps.

                                by|Feb 12, 2020

A:  Over primed drywall, either adhesive would work on a backsplash. Trowel size would 3/16 square notch.

A:  The best solution is to used a good brand of marble-ceramic/mirror adhesive. This is available at Depot and is relatively inexpensive. This can be applied to the surface being applied to or the back of the mosaic wall tile. You need to apply it sparingly and also insure each piece is contacted by the adhesive. Cutting the tube tip close to the end allows a fine stream to be applied or you can apply wider stripes of adhesive on the surface (wall/or top surace) and then smooth over with a putty knife so the area to be covered has a comprehensive but minimal coating. You do not want too much adhesive as that will allow it to come up the spaces between the mosaics all the way and make an unholy mess to correct. Clean any tools and your hands of any adhesive gotten on to them with lacquer thinner (available at Depot) by applying thinner to some paper towel and then wiping. Dispose of the dirty paper towel into a container with a cover and outside the house if possible.
