A:  The finished opening should be 72". I recommend you put the corner bead on the front and back of the stud and mud between. (Yes, we've done this and it holds just fine after painting.) Your other options are to enlarge the rough-in or trim the doors. Good luck.

A:  Just guessing that a 36" bifold door comes shipped at 35.5". My 4 32" doors came in at 31.5" each. With the 1/2" gap clearance needed that is a 32" finished opening. If I were installing (2) 36", I would rough-frame to a 73.5" opening. Adding a 3/4" jamb on each side brings the finished opening to 72". The doors can be trimmed on each edge by 1/4" (that would be 1" total across the double-wide) so better to be a bit tight than a bit loose.
