Answer This Question

A:  We have no reports of any problems with cats using this door.

by|Jul 20, 2020

A:  Of course. I have had 3 cats use this model and none have had a problem. As long as you show them what is on the other side the first time they will be fine. My litter box is in the garage and they have not missed it in 9 years.

A:  Yes. i"ve had mine for a couple of years. we have several cats, and they use no problem. Its the perfect mix of keeping the weather out and the cats still able to use/get through.

A:  Your cat should not have any problem using this door. It opens easily, but yet stays closed during windy days. The original flap lasted lasted 3 years.

A:  Our flaps are not designed for use with off brand pet doors.

      by|May 5, 2023

A:  No. The replacement flaps for medium petsafe freedom dog door are here:. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ideal-Pet-7-in-x-11-25-in-Medium-Replacement-Flap-for-Original-and-Aluminum-Frames-New-Style-Has-Rivets-on-Bottom-Bar-RFMN/202381005 The medium air seal flaps are compatible with a different door and don't install correctly with the petsafe freedom door series. The door opening and attachment for the rigid 3 part flap is different than the design for the vinyl flap one piece flexible flap and are not interchangeable. I've owned both door types from the different manufactures and without any doubt can't recommend petsafe freedom door with it's vinyl flap design because the flap loses shape over (short) time frame and creates a poor seal allow rain snow etc in during moderate winds. Good luck with your door.

A:  This pet door has a plastic, removable, door that slides over the flap and locks in place.

          by|Feb 12, 2019

A:  This is just the flap to replace one that has worn out in the door. If you buy the whole pet door assembly it does come with a door that slides down over the opening that will prevent animals from coming in and keep your pet in when you don't want them to go out. It works really well.

A:  The replacement door flap has no locking mechanism. If you buy the full Ideal Pet door (Model # ASM Internet #203496111 Store SKU #386595) it does comes with a mounting frame and a slide-in panel that prevents entry / exit. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ideal-Pet-6-5-8-in-x-11-1-4-in-Medium-AirSeal-Pet-Door-ASM/203496111

A:  It does not lock but comes with a solid slide over door which will block all things coming in or out. I just love this door. stays shut in blowing wind and rain without the slide down.

A:  The flap does not come with a lock panel but the complete pet door does include one

A:  the door should have had a slide in door stop or panel to keep out stray critters

                by|May 5, 2023

A:  The pet door comes with a plastic insert that can be used to block off the door for access. The insert slides down in tracks. I use this insert for my home as well for my dog.

Q:The rubber strips are tearing and need to be replaced, can you just buy the strips?

A:  I don't know of a way to just replace the rubber strips. My rubber strips did same thing. I bought this door replacement and it worked well. It was easy to replace and fit perfectly. Even if I could replace the rubber strips I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble and time it would take to do it. I'm glad I bought the replacement it is actually sturdier then the original door flap that I had. I think the rubber may even last longer then the original which lasted about 12 years.

A:  You CAN just buy the strips. I ordered replacement strips/hinges and received them within 3 days. However, the strips are for the 'new' version (have narrow retaining lips, when I need wide) and do not fit the door I bought 2-3 years ago. They do not offer the type of strips I need. I was told I have to order the entire flap. The narrow strips they sent me will fit the new flap, when it breaks......sigh I'm thinking of using strips of bicycle inner tube instead, since the screws can be loosened/retightened.
