A:  I think that may be pushing it a little bit, but I'm not positive on that one. I always used either a red or a big blue wire nut on 3 #10's.

A:  Solid or stranded, 3-#10AWG will work just fine. If you are concerned about it being too much for the wire nut look for the Ideal 452 Red WING-NUT. It can handle up to 4-#10AWG stranded or solid wire. Good luck bud.
