Q:How would I secure the mounts to studs that are 16" a part? Is it better to use studs that are (32" a part) or (48" a part and angle the mounts 1 1/2")? The storage items would be on the lighter side and not close to the 250lbs that it is designed for. Thanks

Answer This Question

A:  I would go with the 32" as the instructions say 24-36" spread between the two spreader bars. Mounting at 16" would leave to much of the rack unsupported that extends beyond the spreader bars.

by|Jan 12, 2019

A:  Tucker - 32" would be fine, the installation range for this is 24"-36".

A:  No, this item does not work with 20 inch joist spacing.

      by|Dec 7, 2018

A:  It will work at 40. I have mine spaced that far apart.

        by|Dec 12, 2018

A:  I think it will be fine. You hang the hangers, then put the grate on. Fairly adjustable, but make sure the grate has enough support.

            Answer This Question

A:  yes these are a good storage and will hold your bike but make sure you install on ceiling good.

            by|May 5, 2023

A:  Not if it is a heavy bike. Maybe one single 18 lb road bike, but otherwise put the hook around the support bar (not just the shelf section)

              by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes, as long as it doesn't exceed the maximum weight for that can be stored.

                by|May 5, 2023

A:  I think the shelf will hold around 150 - 200 pounds, if properly installed. But you should double check the specifications.

                  by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes, it is strong enough to hold a bike.

                    by|May 5, 2023

A:  No I don't think it is strong enough. I store lightweight items on the ones I bought. Hope this helps.

A:  Hi Will, Yes the wire grids are strong enough to hold a bike. We have hooks made just for this purpose, item 00682.

                        by|May 5, 2023

A:  Depending on the weight of the bicycle (sic), probably yes. Suggest that you fix the two hooks for the bicycle to the main frame sections and not the wire sections. If you must connect to the wire sections, spread the four hooks evenly on the three wire sections as I had purchesd or the two wire sections that you had bought. I am storing a lot of weight on my hangers inside my garage.

A:  It depends on how thick the are and how much weight you plan on Suspending with it. I have wood joists. Holds up well with some heavy weight

                                by|May 5, 2023

A:  All included fasteners are intended for wood joists and all weight load claims are based on installation into wood joists.

                                  by|May 5, 2023

A:  The hardware that comes with it is for wood joists. Metal joists would require for you to use bolts and nuts to install, and you would need access to both sides of the ceiling to do that; but it is possible.

A:  Figure out which way the joist goes in the garage. Parallel to the garage door or perpendicular to garage door. If parallel then find the joist with stud finder, use the template and drill holes at each end according to template. Now find the next closest joist and do the same as above. Once the main bars are hanging the metal grids lay on top of those two bars you just mounted to ceiling. Tighten all screws and bolts and done.
