A:  I Ivan, thank you for your inquiry. The specie of the wood for this moulding is basswood.

A:  My experience was that it did not need any sanding. It was already smooth enough to paint and turned out fine.

A:  Hi and thank you for your inquiry. This moulding is not difficult to sand for a smooth surface for painting. Although this moulding is smooth enough to be painted over right away, if you feel like it needs more sanding, using a 180 to 220 grit sandpaper then moving up to 320 to 400 grit sandpaper is recommended. A:  A curved fine grain emery board and a small folded sandpapper cupped by your hand. It helps to hold trim in a crosslight to see changes in the spiral cross grain.

A:  Hi Peter, thank you for your inquiry. Doing a 45 degree miter will allow you to match up the corners and the pattern. I would recommend practicing your cuts on a piece before cutting your working pieces. Good luck on the project!

Basswood is one of the softer hardwoods and is very easy to work with. Basswood is also very color consistent, lighter in color, with a uniform tight grain and is commonly called a "White Hardwood."

A:  It is claimed to be hard maple. But... balsa wood is a hard wood too! Hard wood speeches timber comes from trees that have leafs and soft comes from trees with needles. Dense wood is the result of long growth. Softer woods are grown quickly.. Rope trim comes in a variety. The type depends on your needs and budget, paint grade or stain, light or dark etc.
