Q:My floors are uneven by about 1/2 inch. Will this product work for me? Thanks

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. This depends on what type of floors you have. When you have two floors with different heights, you will generally want either a carpet reducer (which this product is) or a hard surface reducer (when bridging the gap between two hard surface floors). If you'd like to discuss your situation you can contact me at 877-630-1800.

Q:Can I use this bamboo reducer molding outdoors (in New York weather)? I was concerned if it will be stable and that any glue (?) used in its manufacture will remain waterproof. I am concerned about the integrity of the molding, not the finish. Thanks.

A:  Thank you for your question. We have not tested the Horizontal Toast Carpet Reducer in outdoor environments, so we do not know how it will perform.

Q:I have this on my basement floor and want to put it on the stairs as well. Does this product work on stairs and if so, where can I find the caps for this finish?

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. This particular product is intended as a carpet reducer, rather than a stair nose. In most cases our floors can be used on stairs, although we need more specific product information to confirm. Please contact our technical services department at 877-630-1800.

Q:Can this be used on half inch hardwood flooring transitioning to carpet.

        Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. The Horizontal Toast carpet reducer was designed to coordinate with our Horizontal Toast floor. As we have not tested it with other floors, we cannot guarantee that it will be compatible with yours, even if it is the correct size. The best way to check for coordination is to order a piece of the trim to test with your existing floor.

Q:What does 1/2 inch refer to? Is the drop 1/2 inch?

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. The 1/2 inch figure represent the distance from the base of the trim to the bottom of the reducer's lip. It is not meant to be a measurement of the entire molding.

A:  It fit exactly over my hardwood (same height). I used the other end to create and edge for carpet. So, they'll be a tack strip 1/4" away and the carpet will be tucked between the tack strip and this reducer.

A:  Thank you for your question. The trim pieces for the Horizontal Toast are intended to coordinate with a 3/8 inch plank. The stair nose will rise to about that height off of the stair riser.

A:  I was able to stain it but it is VERY dense - it's more like painting then staining. I sanded it first and allowed for plenty of drying time in Texas heat. That said, I much prefer oak reducer over bamboo when I plan to stain to get close to flooring color.

A:  Yes.....you will have to sand it....it has a finish on it....I sanded mine....and stained it ebony ....to match our floor.....this is a great heavy duty product.....not like those flimsy transitions...I nailed it to the floor....with a brad nailer..

A:  No, it cannot be stained.
