A: Yes but not that much. I trimmed 3/8 off each side and much more would weaken the attach points of the sides to top and bottom.

A: Yes, the holes are pre-drilled in the top and bottom of each door. Just place the pivot pins on the side that you want in the fixed position and top roller on the other side.

A: No they cannot be stained, unless you're willing to sand the primer down to the wood.
