A:  The additional red wire is required to operate both the fan and the oscillation. Without it you would need not be able to power the oscillation function. However, there are two alternatives for your situation. You can order a remote/receiver kit which will allow you to control the fan with a remote control and will allow you to install the fan on 14/2 wire. The kit can be purchased by contacting the manufacturer's customer service team at 1-877-902-5588. Or, you can purchase the Bentley III 22 in. ceiling fan which is slightly bigger but already includes the remote/receiver kit instead of the wall control.

A:  The wall control should only be used with a single fan as the medium and low speeds will not work correctly if multiple fans are on the same circuit. However, you can have multiple fans wired to a basic on/off wall switch. When the switch is turned on all fans will run at their highest speed setting (you will not be able to run them on low or medium). You can use a wire nut to cap off the wires for the oscillation function to keep that function permanently disabled. If you must have medium and low speeds, you also have the option of purchasing the remote/receiver kits from the manufacturer. These kits allow you to control the fans with a wireless remote control instead. Each fan can be on its own remote or a single remote can control all fans.
