A:  It is actually a thin piece of cardboard type material that is screwed in.

A:  The back is made of thin hardwood.

A:  Yes the back is made of the same material as the rest. It is not thin. The shelves are only 7 inches deep not enough to hold my cook books.

A:  Top open shelf is about 21 1/2 inches  Drawers are 5” tall  Bottom section is 22” with a permanent shelf inside at the 7” mark 

A:  The width without the crown is 19.25”
