A:  Most ornamental brass finishes such as this chandelier are highly polished and sprayed with a thin protective transparent coating. If not handled frequently, clean cotton gloves are used - 5 to 10 years of service without degradation might be expected in a typical indoor environment. If tarnishing happens, I have used Brasso or similar lightly abrasive polishes to restore the luster, then sprayed with clear acrylic coating.

A:  Barb, I apologize if I am not clear on what you are asking. This item will need to be hardwired. You will have to install the item with the chain as shown. It does comes with additional chain for adjustable hanging length.
