        A:  A; iIS THE POLE BENT? I f so you can stand on the base and bend the pole strate. B. If not and its on carpet get a iece of 3/4 plywood about 18'' square and attach the base of the lamp to it.

        A:  No, just on off, no 3 positiuon switch.i us e remote dimable LED bulb. turn it on then dim or brighten with the remote. The top torch light is good for this with a 60 watt EQUIVELENT LED in the reading light.
