A: Thank you for your interest in our Rochester Nail-up Tin Ceiling Tile in Gloss White. Our tin tiles, other the the unfinished, are all manufactured with a protective coating to help prevent from rusting overtime. However, the protective layer is not manufactured to withstand constant and direct water contact over a period of time; since the tiles are made of real tin they will rust if they are exposed to consistent water contact over an extended period of time. If you have any additional product questions please feel free to reach out to our customer care team at 800.434.3750. Thanks again!

A: Thank you for your great question! Yes the matte white and unfinished panels are recommended if you plan on painting your tiles. Use an oil-based primer and paint. Steel will rust if a water-based product is used. The surface area should be clean, dry, flat and structurally sound. If proper preparation steps are not taken, you take the risk of a poor final product. Painted tiles are fire retardant up to 300 degrees. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact our customer care team at 800.434.3750. Thanks again!
