A: Grace Ice and Watershield is a self adhered roofing underlayment and is designed as secondary waterproofing for the sloped roof environment. Our minimum slope requirement is a 4:12 roof pitch unless the primary covering (shingle/metal/etc) is rated for lower slope. Grace Ice and Watershield should not be used as secondary waterproofing on slopes below 2:12 and should not be used as primary waterproofing for low slope or flat roofs. We will post the technical letter to this item for further info.

A: The whole thing, it is designed to make your whole roof more secure. Just make sure to overlap the joints at least three inches and I wrapped the first strip over the edge to help prevent any damage.

A: It’s up to you, your budget, and how much you are willing to risk a leak. In the mid-Atlantic I’ve seen contractors cover the entire roof which I probably overkill, but this membrane seals the nail holes and serves as another barrier to entry. I had this installed around skylights based on the manufacturers recommendation. A little more cost during installation, but cheaper than fixing a leak later. My peace of mind was worth it.

A: No, this is designed to go under roofing. It won't hold thinset, and can more more than you'd want under tile. Look into products designed for concrete surfaces.

Answer This Question
A: You overlap by about 4-5 inches. If you are doing a small job like a shed, it's better to cut sheets on the ground before putting them on. Check out YOUTUBE and watch the video a few times. After you finish, sit on a chair, have a beer and you can say, I DID THAT.
