A:  Thank you for your inquiry. This is not a recessed fixture.

A:  The back plate is a large, cast metal rectangle in the same finish as the exterior. It sits on top of the wall surface and is held against the wall by a thumb screw behind the lightbulb. The cage you see is around 1/4" ABOVE the wall surface. FYI, I used tub and tile caulk to put a bead on the back plate to seal it to the exterior stucco wall.

A:  Closed top and bottom, It is a sealed fixture with a rubber gasket that keeps out moisture and bugs.

A:  The heavy duty glass diffuser is one piece and is closed at the top and bottom. There is a heavy duty back rubber gasket that seal the glass to the back plate when the cage is screwed down by the 4 corner screws. It is sealed.

Q:I notice that this fixture is also available, for about $30.00 more, in "bronze" as opposed to this model that is "architectural" bronze. What is the difference?

              A:  It is glass.

A:  The question was not perhaps phrased correctly. The white part of this light fixture (that surrounds the bulb) would logically be glass. Are the arc shaped prongs that hold the glass in place metal or plastic? Is the base of the lamp that you screw into the wall metal or plastic?

A:  Light is made with aluminum, and is very durable.

A:  Yes, you can mount this light horizontally as well.

                  by|May 3, 2023

A:  The heavy duty glass diffuser is sealed to the back plate by a heavy rubber gasket that is compressed by the 4 corner screws. That said, the bulb side of the fixture is sealed, so horizontal mounting should work fine. As a note, there are two small notches on the bottom rim of the back plate that mounts to the wall. I guessed those were put there to provide drainage in case any water got between the backplate the the wall. I mounted mine on stucco ( not super flat), so I put a bead of tub and tile calk on the top and sides of the backplate before mounting to the wall. My goal was to prevent water from getting behind the fixture but not to seal the bottom so it could still drain and breath. That said, file a couple of drainage notches on what will be the bottom side, use some caulking and mounting sideways should work just fine.
