Q:Can this be used to adhere 1? rigid foam board to concrete walls

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello JayDee - No, the correct product to use would be the Great Stuff Pro™ Construction Adhesive. If you do choose to the Great Stuff Pro™ Construction Adhesive, that mechanical fasteners are required to keep the board firmly against the wall, while the foam cures and to keep the foam from pushing the insulation from the wall. Read and follow all of directions for whatever adhesive you decide to use.

Q:Does this product have any structural value? Furring roof out for metal roof. Want to fill gaps where roof dips. Will foam support 1x4 at gaps for stepping on in future? Also is it closed cell as not to absorb water?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello Gapper - The Great Stuff™ and Great Stuff Pro™ offer no structural value. I looked at the Product Information Sheet available on DuPont's website, and the compressive strength of the Great Stuff Pro™ Window and Door is 3 psi. The window and door products are mostly open cell products, the Great Stuff Pro™ Window and Door is < 75% open cell content. These is what allows the product to be used around windows and doors without the fear of the window or door frame bowing. The Great Stuff Pro™ Gaps and Cracks is only 9.3 psi and would not hold up to being stepped on. DuPont does not offer a product that would have the required strength for this application.

          Answer This Question

A:  Don't wear clothes you need to stay clean, when using this stuff. The "cleaners" are acetone or similar products, which will ruin your clothes as well. Use a Tyvek coverall to help keep clothes clean, or reuse the clothes for other messy projects.

            Answer This Question

A:  Hello Vinny27 - Absolutely not. Great Stuff™ and Great Stuff Pro™ Insulating Foam Sealant products use moisture in the air to cure. They are designed to fill small cracks and gaps with a maximum 3-inch diameter bead (Big Gap Filler or the Great Stuff Pro™ products). Do not use Great Stuff™ and Great Stuff Pro™ sealants to fill enclosed voids such as behind drywall or under tub surrounds; this improper use of the product could result in the accumulation of flammable vapors and/or uncured material.

              Answer This Question

A:  Hi Robert - Great Stuff™ products would not be a good choice for this application. Great Stuff™ Insulating Foam Sealant products use moisture in the air to cure. They are designed to fill open small cracks and gaps with a maximum 3-inch diameter bead. Do not inject the Great Stuff™ sealants to fill enclosed voids such as behind drywall or under a boat deck; this improper use of the product could result in the accumulation of flammable vapors and/or uncured material. DuPont™ does not have a product suitable for this application.

A:  it depends how much is needed per door, but i have been able to get 10 doors out of one can

                by|Jul 27, 2021

A:  Dear Jeff: There is no way to answer that question exactly because the rough framing gaps around doors vary. A rough estimate is 2 to 3 doors per Pro can, if you thoroughly fill the gaps. If you are working on a job with a bunch of doors and windows, I definitely recommend the Great Stuff 'Pro' gun ($49) and a can of cleaner. This is much easier to use, stopping and starting, compared to standard retail cans with the straw. It is also important to use the 'Window and Door' version that you selected, because it remains flexible after it cures -- to avoid cracks as things expand and contract. Also note that all versions of Great Stuff and similar 3M canned spray foam are very flammable and should never to be used near any source of heat. The cured foam will ignite at just 240 degrees F, which is significantly lower than the ignition temp for paper or wood. This is true even if the can says "Fireblock" on the label. These spray foams are banned for fire blocking (e.g. filling holes in framing for pipes and electric lines) in commercial construction -- and a residential inspector can fail your inspection if he/she is informed about this issue. We always use fire resistant caulk, which is easy to apply, e.g. 3M Fire Barrier CP25WB, Home Depot Internet #100166701,UPC Code #051115116384 I hope this is helpful, Mark
