A:  DEPENDS ON WHAY TYPE YOU USE. THIS PANEL ALLOWS FOR MINI BREAKERS (1/2 ) AND WELL AS STANDARD (1 ) IN MOST ALL OTHER PANEL MODELS. IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND MINI'S CONFIGIURATIONS AND ENCLOSURE CODES, YOU SHOULD BE AN ELECTRICIAN TO PERFORM THIS WORK!

Q:I am replacing a 60 amp service in my garage and have limited space to work with. This box will meet the space requirement but as a main lug sub panel there is no power disconnect (Main Breaker). The Home Depot product overview states "Use as a main lug load center or convert to a main breaker". What Main Breaker do I use to make the conversion?

            Answer This Question

A:  Great question. You would use a type THQL 2 pole breaker in the amperage you need (for example THQL2160 HD sku 198196) and a main breaker retaining kit THQLRK2CP (HD sku 482398). The breaker goes in the upper right position as you are looking at box with lugs oriented at the top. The kit is then installed to hold it in and you would backfeed the breaker instead of lugs. This allows the breaker to cut power to the bus.

A:  This is a question for your local electrical authority and depends on local code. Any electrical work should be performed by a licensed electrician and after a permit has been pulled.

A:  Yes, there are very few situations in which a 125 amp panel would be fed by copper, the standard at amperage that high is aluminum. Look up how to apply anti-ox compound with a wire brush to the aluminum wire, this is essential.
