A:  No. Each leg of this breaker is 40 amps. You need two breakers of the appropriate sizes for your appliances.

by|Feb 22, 2024

A:  Yes, you can use this 2-pole breaker for a 20A multiwire branch circuit which means both circuits share the neutral conductor. Use 12-3 NM cable.

Q:I need to replace a double pole breaker that GE has labeled with the "20" on each pole. These new breakers only says "20" on one pole. Does that mean my old breaker is 40amp? or did GE just change the way they are labeled? Picture of old amp attached.

A:  Check the label inside the panel cover to see what type breakers the panel will accept. Look for THQP.

A:  Let me try an explain it in a simple way. The double pole breaker that saids 50 amp is 50 amp per pole. So 50 amps per wire. You never add the them, so it's not 25 plus 25 to give you 50 amp, it's 50 amps per side aka pole.

A:  If the breaker is marked "50" it is 50 amps per pole for a total of 50 amps at 240 volts.

Q:Can I use 2 of these to replace an existing 2-inch dual pole 30A breaker (see picture) to have one more 240V circuit? I suppose I have to move the 1/2" in position 10 to position 2 then install 2 of these in positions 4 and 8. Is that correct? Thanks!

A:  While this is possible you should actually buy a quad breaker that ties the outer and inner breakers together. It should be noted that some panels are not compatible with mini and quad breakers to prevent them from being overloaded however if your panel already has other mini-breakers it should work. When you buy the quad you can get a 30 matched with the other size your installing but make sure the wire is large enough for the breaker otherwise it could cause a fire (Example: 14awg = 15 amp, 12awg = 20 amp, 10awg = 30amp).

A:  Hire a licensed electrician and don't burn the house down. You'll also need rewiring work done.

A:  Two of these THQP breaker may not fit in the space of one THQL breaker. Consult the bus layout on the label inside the panel.

A:  Location is important! On this dual pole breaker, there is a tab which sticks out at the back; it fits into a little curve in the bar behind the breakers. The breaker must span two slots (the B of 4 and A of 6) to not fry your appliance.

A:  #1 You have to make sure you have a load center that accepts 1/2" frame breakers in all positions. I will say our panels feature a rejection feature that won't allow you to plug on a breaker that is not designed to be placed in that position. #2 If you are unsure please hire an electrician to assist. Thanks

A:  I am assuming this breaker box is for single phase 120/240 Volt service? If it is the box is set up so that every other slot is an alternate leg of 120 Volts.. As you know in order to get 240 Volts you need to plug this breaker in so that it plugs into an opposing leg of 120 Volts. Typically if you look at the panel and start from the very top of the bus on either side of the panel you will notice that the slots are numbered. Typically if you start on the left side of the panel and work your way down, the first two slots should be numbered 1 and 3. and you should only be able to plug a double pole breaker in these slots. If you try to plug the breaker into slots 3 and 5 (This would be slot directly below slot 3) for example the breaker should not fit and even if it did you would only be getting 120Volts since the power would be coming from the same leg. Finally, it is also possible that this breaker is not designed for your GE panel so check the model number of the box and go to the GE website to determine if the breaker you are using can be used in that particular panel box. I hope this helps and if you have any doubts about what you are doing contact a licensed electrician. Finally, since you broke the tabs off of the breaker, be sure to discard it as it is now trash.

A:  These do not fit in the same as full size breakers. If you start at the top of a panel and count down on the left it goes 1,3,5,7…, The same on the right except even numbers. In order for this breaker to be 240 volt it must be installed in spaces 3 and 5 or 4 and 6. Then you follow same pattern going down. It always starts on B phase.
