Questions and Answers for GE Profile 1.7 cu. ft. Over the Range Convection Microwave in Black with Sensor Cooking

A:  Hi Charles- This is Sue at GE Appliances. The over-the-range microwave is not designed for "built-in" installation. These models are installed between cabinets. Do not install in a closed cabinet or cut-out space where the bottom is covered. Over the range models must be installed 66" from the floor to the bottom of the cabinet that the microwave attaches to. This can also be measured as 30" from the cooktop to the bottom of the cabinet it attaches to. Over the range microwaves cannot be used on a counter or shelf. The underside is not flat and would not provide a stable surface. Additionally, there can be a heat issue, especially if the vent fan or surface lights were accidentally turned on. It can be installed under a cabinet, even if there is not a cooking surface underneath; however, the height clearances must still be met. Check the installation instructions for complete details. A:  That is the charcoal filter and it goes on the top.

A:  Hi mar in Lakeside, AZ. Thank you for your question. Check your owner’s manual on this one. On page 29 of the owner’s manual, you will find detailed instructions on where to and how to install the charcoal filter. I have included the link below: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/d1/d1a85ca3-4fb9-4f43-8dc5-82700364fc07.pdf It is recommended that you unplug your microwave before installing or removing the new filter. On this model, you may need to open the door of the microwave to remove the top grill plate. There should be 2 crews on either side. Once this plate has been removed, all you need do is lift the charcoal filter from the bottom. The new one should be easy to install but if it is older, it might be slightly stuck and need to be gently pried off. Once it is loosed and free of the tabs, slide the filter down and then out. Be sure to remove the plastic wrapping on the new filter before you install it. Insert your charcoal filter up and into the grooves on the inside of the top opening. Next, push the bottom of the filter in until it rests in place behind the tabs. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Rick_HD_OC

A:  This model can be vented outside through the top or back or through recirculating.
