Q:What is the smallest size pot I can use?

      Answer This Question

A:  You would have problems if your pan was bigger than the burner, but not smaller. See pic attached. The small pan works great on the larger burner and only the area where the pan sits, gets hot.

A:  Hello, Thank you for your interest in the GE Profile Induction Cooktop in Black with 5 Elements Model # PHP960DMBB. Each cooking element requires a Minimum pan size. If the pan is properly centered, and of the correct material, but is too small for the cooking element, the element cannot be activated. The display will flash “F” along with the power level selected. Cookware larger than the element ring may be used; however, heat will only occur above the element. For best results, the cookware must make Full contact with the glass surface. Place a pan matching the size of the induction element over the selected indicator ring. Compatible cookware for induction cooktops should be made of magnetic stainless steel, cast iron (works well but may scratch the glass unless it is porcelain coated), enameled steel or a combination of these materials. Pans should have a flat bottom and be at least 5 inches across the bottom. ~ 11 inch ~ 8 inch ~ 7 inch ~ 6 inch ~ Warming Zone This is a beautiful cooktop! Donna with GE

A:  Hi-Kevin-this is from GE. Thanks for your interest in our 36" induction cooktop. You will need to make sure your wood countertop, wall coverings, and cabinets around the cooktop can withstand heat (up to 200 degrees F.) generated by the cooktop. This information can be referenced in the installation manual on page 3:G. I have provided the link for you to help with planning the installation: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/04/046706db-a273-487c-bf3f-ccbee46d649c.pdf Thanks for checking with us.

            Q:GE Profile Induction Cooktop Installation

A:  It's pretty easy if you already have a hard wired cooktop that you're replacing, as long as the circuit is big enough. It doesn't plug in. It's wired directly to the wires of your home. Turn your power off to your existing cooktop, undo the wiring on the current cooktop, patch in this cooktops wiring and then turn it back on. For the 36", you'll need a 50 amp circuit. If you don't have a 50 amp circuit or currently use a hard-wired cooktop, you'll need to have an electrician run the wires for you.

A:  Hello, This is Donna with GE. Thank you for your interest in the GE Profile 36 in. Electric Induction Cooktop model # PHP960DMBB. This is a beautiful cooktop. The 3 /4" height is almost all underneath the counter. The cooktop is flat on the counter surface and is just the thickness of the glass which is less than 1/4". I would recommend to view the installation instructions available on the Home Depot website under "More Info" and then select intructions. I hope this helps. Thank you for considering GE!

Q:cAN YOU LIST THE PROS & CONS OF THE GE INDUCTION COOKTOP?

              Answer This Question

A:  Hello. This is Jill with GE. Thank you for your interest in our appliances and for your inquiry. I am happy to help. The development of the induction feature is phenomenal, and my absolute favorite method of cooking. Heat is produced by way of a high-frequency induction coil below the cooktop's smooth surface that heats the cookware by a magnetic field. The only area that heats is that which comes in contact with the magnetic or iron-content cookware, leaving the un-used portion of the element unheated. Induction differs from gas or radiant cooktops because there is no exposed coil, open flame or heated surface. If an element is turned on accidentally, no heat is generated unless cookware 5" or greater in diameter is placed on the element. When cookware is removed from the element, the coil is de-energized and automatically turns off within 30 seconds. Induction cooking is faster than gas and radiant cooktops. The surface is also easy to clean. The only challenge with using this feature is that you need to make sure that the proper type of cookware is used. Cookware should be made of magnetic stainless steel, cast iron, enameled steel or a combination of these materials. Pans should have a flat bottom and be at least 5 inches across the bottom. A magnet must be able to stick and hold to the bottom of the pan. Aluminum or aluminum clad, copper or copper clad, aluminum foil, glass, ceramic, and some stainless steel products which do not hold a magnet cannot be used. As you can see, the benefits far outweigh the challenges. I hope this helps! Please let us know if any additional questions come up. Have a nice day!

A:  My question regards the GE Profile 36 in. smooth surface electric induction cooktop. Is it available in white? Someone mentioned in their comments that the GE induction cook top has a timer. Can the cook set this timer to turn off a specific burner in a specified length of time?

                by|May 2, 2023

A:  Pros: Easy to clean, heats up the pans fast. Food doesn't cook onto the surface, since that is not what's getting hot (the pan does). Reacts quickly, almost like gas. Even heating Cons: You'll need a 50 amp circuit for the 36" You may need to buy new pans (they have to be induction compatible). If a magnet will stick to the base of your pans, they should work. Cast iron will work as well. Aluminum will not. More expensive than an electric cooktop (but worth it).
