Q:Is the back of freezer supposed to turn red hot with water sizzling when it hits the coils?
by|Dec 6, 2014
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hi, This is Lisa from GE. I am happy to help. In a no frost refrigerator, the defrost timer activates defrost heaters in the evaporator section (rear of freezer) which heat up and melt the frost off the evaporator coils. This process lasts for approximately 25-45 minutes and usually happens up to twice a day. During this time, there will be no running sounds, no fan noise, and you may hear water dripping or sizzling as it hits the heaters. On side by side models, you may even be able to see an orange glow at the bottom of the freezer. This is normal. Thanks for checking.

A:  One inch should be fine.

        by|May 3, 2023

A:  Hello, This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. Side by Side refrigerators with an icemaker require 11 1/4" on the freezer side to remove the ice bin if the door is obstructed & only available to open to 90 degrees. If doors cannot be fully opened because of an obstruction or a wall on either side, a door stop should be provided to prevent door or wall damage. If doors can't open at least 90 degrees, access to the drawers is limited. In order to remove the fresh food pans with a 90 degree door opening you will need to remove door bins first. Thanks so much for your question. Have a good day!

Q:Is the dispensed water from the refrigerator chilled?

            Answer This Question

A:  No; only as cold as it would be from your water line (the water comes straight from the external water line and through the fridge's filter; without stopping anywhere to chill).

A:  Hello, This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to answer your question. Yes, this refrigerator model DSE26JSESS has a reservoir in the fresh food section that holds water. The water is stored until it is needed by the water dispenser. Since the reservoir is in the fresh food section, the water is chilled but will not be ice-cold. Thank you for your question.

                Q:snack draw problem

                Answer This Question

A:  Hello Mdy2 - this is Nancy at GE. I am sorry to hear that the snack pan drawer of your refrigerator is difficult to open and am happy to help you. First, please disconnect power to the refrigerator at the main power supply prior to attempting any type of cleaning or maintenance. We recommend to remove the drawer and clean the glides both in the refrigerator and on the snack pan drawer with a damp wash cloth. If this does not help, you can try rubbing some paraffin wax along the edges of the drawer glides. Paraffin wax is used for canning and is safe for use around food. Do not use candle wax as it may contain chemicals that are not safe for use around food. I hope this is helpful! Thanks for checking with us!

Q:We have the stainless steel and the door handles seem to get caked with food particles. Does anyone know of handle covers that we can use?

                  Answer This Question

A:  Hello LynnD- This is Lisa from GE. I am sorry, we do not make handle covers. GE recommends cleaning your refrigerator with Cerama Bryte stainless steel appliance cleaner on stainless steel exteriors or interiors. (Order part number PM10X311, 16 oz bottle, from GE Parts). To use: Shake the bottle well. Place a small amount of Cerama Bryte® stainless steel appliance cleaner on a damp cloth or damp paper towel. Clean a small area (approximately 8" by 8"), rubbing with the grain of the stainless steel if applicable. Dry and buff with a clean, dry paper towel or soft cloth. Repeat if necessary. You may also use: Citrushine Stainless Steel Wipes, removes fingerprints, de-greases and shines without streaking. (Order part number WX10X10007, from GE Parts). For heavy soils: Use a paste of baking soda and water while rubbing with a soft cloth. I hope this helps. Thanks for checking!
