      A:  you will never get the 4x4 to fit. the caps are true size: 6x6 is really 6x6, which is what i would purchase. i think you will have a gap between the cap and the post but with deliberate placement of the cap this should work fine.

        A:  6x6, which is a true 6" square on these caps. So it will fit a little loose but has screws to secure it
