The panels are made of a PVC material; not real copper, therefore the color will not develope a patina over time. In addition, the panels are manufactured with an over lapping lip on the top and right hand side of the panel to help make your installation appear as seamless as possible. A:  Thank you for your great question! If you are looking to paint our Fasade Hammered PVC Decorative Backsplash Panels we recommend you purchase them in a white finish. We cannot warranty a color match on any of the other finishes. Please follow the paint instructions on the latex/oil based paint you choose to use when it comes to step by step painting procedures. You can drill holes into the panels, but it may cause some cracking or denting in certain patterns. Once there are holes made in the panels it invalidates the warranty as well. The panels are Class A fire rated up to 140 degrees, as long as they are 6 inches away from a direct head source (for example; a burner on a stove) they would work well for your installation. If you can touch the portion of the fireplace where you desire the panels to be and it is not too hot for your touch, you will have success installing these panels there. Some customers do prefer to have a trim piece as a finished off edge for their installation and we have Fasade trim for every need; including our J Trim, Inside Corner, Outside Corner, and Divider to accomodate all of our panels.
