Q:how to cut proper corners on crown molding

Answer This Question

A:  I have found this almost impossible to do with an ordinary miter box and saw. However, I bought an electric miter saw for this project, and the operating instructions made it easy. I also purchased a rolling miter stand to bring the saw up to waist level, and this makes it much easier than squatting down on the floor. If I were you I would not waste my time until I bought the right tools. In the long run you will be glad that you did. This is fancy molding and it is a shame to mess it up. Hope this helps!

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello ND fan! Thank you for your question! If you are installing crown molding to adjacent walls you may need to angle your cuts around corners. You can download installation instructions on how to cut crown molding at www.ehow.com. Decide what angles need to be cut. The vast majority of all corner angles cut on crown molding are 45 degree angles. The reason is simple. A typical corner is 90 degrees, so two complementary angles of crown molding must be cut at 45 degrees to make the resultant angle. Most crown molding angles are cut to achieve inside corners, outside corners and straight joints. Decide what you have to cut, then make an approximate pencil line on your crown molding to remind you which way to cut. Place your first piece of wood into the mitre box, with the back side of the molding against the outside wall of the mitre box. Hold the crown molding securely in place with a carpenter's clamp, then cut down into the wood with the mitre saw, using the mitre box's 45-degree angle guide to keep the saw straight and even. Place your second piece of wood into the mitre box, with the back side of the molding against the outside wall of the mitre box. Hold the crown molding securely in place with a carpenter's clamp, then cut down into the wood with the mitre saw, using the mitre box's 45-degree angle guide to keep the saw straight and even. Remember that in most joints, this cut will be a mirror image of the first cut. Place the two pieces of crown molding together to check the joint. It should be flush and tight. To view the above information and a diagram you can visit www.ehow.com and type in crown molding. Please feel free to contact customer care at 800.434.3750.

A:  Great question! Currently, we do not manufacture white crown molding nor do we recommend that you paint over the faux foil. The paint you choose may react with the preexisting faux foil to give you a color that you may not be fully satisfied with. Feel free to contact customer care for additional options (800.434.3750).
