A:  The frame of the skylight is finished with two layers of clear acrylic lacquer. It does not have to be painted but if desired it can receive a paint. We recommend to matt factory finish first with fine sandpaper to improve a new paint adhesion.

A:  FV skylight comes with crank. When skylight is installed in out of reach location the crank will should be replaced with hex adapter and SZS opening rod (separate purchase). The rod max length is 10'

A:  how far do they open? large enough to be able to access the roof?

A:  FV and FVE skylights will open 12 inches. You will not be able to access your roof through FV vented skylight. If you need a roof access window please check Fakro FWU model
