Q:I have heard bed frames for example are "hardened" steel, can this saw with the mild steel blade be used to cut old bed frames safely? Don't want to ruin the blade.

A: @Desig- As long as the RPM for your saw is under 1600 and it has a 1Inch arbor.

A: The cutting edges are actually hardened inserts and can be replaced ... however, you may find that the cost to do that is almost the same as a new blade ... but yes, it can be done.
