Yes, with undermount sinks we recommend that they should only be fastened to a solid surface countertop like granite, quartz, or Corian®. We also recommend that undermount sinks be installed by a professional, experienced installer.

A:  Thank you for your question on the Elkay HDU32189F Crosstown Stainless Steel Single Bowl Undermount Sink. This is not the recommended installation for this model sink. We recommend that undermount sinks should only be fastened to a solid surface countertop (i.e. granite / Corian®). With installing it on top of plywood and under the quartz countertop, the thickness of the sink material will cause the countertop to not be sitting on a flat, even surface. This can create a shear point where the quartz countertop could crack along those edges that are not sitting flat.

A:  Definitely, the sink does need support other than adhesive to the counter. In my case, the installer screwed support blocks to the adjoining cabinets.
