A:  The CL Eaton breakers are. I would try to stick with a Murray breaker

        by|Aug 12, 2020

A:  All else fails you should refer to the label on your panel cover. I came across this few years ago. "Eaton" does have a compatibility chart published you can find via search engine look for "images." IMO you should stick with the same brand breaker and panel. Using other brands (even if they match) could result in a warranty issue or pose big problems if there is an issue and an insurance claim is made. I mixed and matched using the Eaton chart and at the time of inspection he would not let it go. I provided him the info and he backed down, but did suggest keeping it all the same brand especially since it was new construction. I switched over to all Eaton breakers. If you mix brands of breakers make sure you have supporting documentation in the event there is an issue resulting in some sort of claim.Lastly, there are some manufactures that do certify other brands. Usually due to them acquiring the company or it is a parent company. Didn't directly answer your question. Looking at the chart it does look like it will match up.

A:  If you need a Murray MP, buy a Murray MP. Otherwise, the label inside the panel door will tell you if any other breakers are approved for use in the panel.

Q:can this be used with a generator?

        Answer This Question

A:  Not sure what you are actually trying to ask. However, I assume if you wire the generator to the circuit breaker box this breaker would work. Not sure why you would be doing this.

              Answer This Question

A:  It will work in a Challenger panel. However, if there was a Challenger panel in my house, I would see about getting the panel replaced by a licensed electrician. While you are in the store buying the circuit breaker, maybe you should pick up a home fire extinguisher.

A:  Yes, the Eaton/Cutler-Hammer BR series breaker is the correct U.L. Listed replacement for the old Challenger breakers. That being said, the NEC limits general use 120 volts circuits for lighting and receptacles to 20 amps.

Q:Will this breaker work in an old General Switch panel?

              Answer This Question

A:  If you check the label inside the panel door I think you will find that one of the acceptable breakers for a General Switch panel is a Bryant Type BR. The Eaton/Cutler-Hammer Type BR breaker is the Bryant replacement so the answer to your questions is yes, this is the correct U.L. Listed breaker to fit your panel.

              Q:Will a Eaton breaker fit a Cutler-Hammer panel

              Answer This Question

A:  Eaton (Cutler-Hammer) manufactures two lines of circuit breakers and loadcenters. One line is Type BR. Only Type BR breakers (black handle) will fit the Type BR panels as well as the legacy brands of Bryant, Challenger and Westinghouse. The second product line is Type CH. Type CH breakers and loadcenters are distinguished by a sandlewood/tan color. Type CH breakers will only fit in Type CH loadcenters.

A:  Eaton breakers are Cutler-Hammer breakers. This type BR breaker fits the BR series (gray in color) loadcenters and not the CH series loadcenters which are sandalwood tan in color.
