Q:Why don’t you mention that this plate requires a mounting plate? Where is the mounting plate sold?

    Answer This Question

A:  Mounts in a single gang box... like the box inside the wall used on all outlets and light switches. Select an "old" or "new" construction box depending on your installation.

    by|Sep 18, 2022

A:  Thank you for your question. This device does not require a mounting plate.

      by|Jun 4, 2019

A:  You do need a cut out to place this wall plate in but no mounting plate it needed. The finished product looks just like the photo.

        by|Feb 20, 2019

A:  On the box instructions specifically says that the mounting plate is sold separately. There are applications, as in mine where I don’t need or want to install a single gang box and it would be helpful if Home Depot sold the mounting plate as described.

          by|Feb 20, 2019

A:  I didn't mentioned it needed a mounting plate because it could be use without one, on my installations I see what will work better depending on the project and I make the call whether to use or not a mounting plate. They are sold in bix box stores.

              Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. Unfortunately there is not a cover for the hole.

              by|Jun 4, 2019

A:  No, this model does not come with a cover.

                by|Dec 13, 2018

                  A:  No.

                  by|Dec 15, 2018

A:  Yes there is. Home Depot has Leviton, Preferred, solid white wall plates that are 3/8 inch larger and should cover the hole perfectly. Remove the 2 screws on the multimedia plate and replaced with the solid plate which can be painted to match the wall. Go to the electric department and ask someone who works there for help in finding it.

                    by|Dec 15, 2018

A:  No, there is not a cover. The only way to cover the hole will be replacing the plate. You can get a .25 cents cover to replace it.

                      by|Dec 17, 2018

A:  No there isn’t. If you no longer use, I would just buy a white blank plate and swap it out.

                          Answer This Question

A:  No, you can't run a power cord behind the wall just like that based on codes. Just check your local electric codes to make sure you are doing the right thing.

                          by|Dec 17, 2018

A:  Following local building codes would be your best bet. My guess is that it's not going to be advised. Putting insufficiently sized power cords, or any electrical cord splices behind drywall would definitely be considered a fire hazard. Also, these plates are specifically marketed as 'Low Voltage/Data Cables Only'.

A:  Technically, it will fit, BUT it is a violation of electrical code. Only in-wall rated cabling can be used for power.

A:  Yes, BUT running in-wall power that way violates electrical code. You must use in-wall rated cabling for power.

A:  There was not a template when I purchased this wall plate, just screws. However, you will need a bracket that mounts flush to the drywall and has the thread for the plate screws to attach to. (Link below) The hole in the bracket serves as a template. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Carlon-1-Gang-Non-Metallic-Low-Voltage-Old-Work-Bracket-SC100RR/100160916?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal1_rr-_-203492457-_-100160916-_-N

A:  When I ordered, I was thinking I'd be screwing into drywall using drywall anchors. However, after seeing it up close, that wasn't going to be practical, as there wouldn't be enough meat left for the top screw after the requisite hole in the wall is cut (the picture shown is misleading). So, yes, some kind of mounting plate is needed. My solution was to cut the back half off a blue plastic 'old work' one gang outlet box (easy with common hack saw) and use that for the mounting plate. It's cheap, and works quite well.
