A:  In my experience, the filters with the metal retainer are paper filters. (I can't say all of them are, just the ones I've bought.). Paper filters offer much more air resistance than these free flowing fiberglass filters, and I think that the metal is to keep them from getting sucked in.

A:  The cardboard is kind of flimsy, but it seems to work well. Not much of a difference between this and other filters, besides the filter itself. It fits snug into the intake vent, and the filter allows for maximum airflow.

A:  I use these filters in filter return grills. If I had to use it inside of the furnace compartment itself, I would have wanted the metal retainer style due to suction on the blower. The filter I ordered, without the metal retainer, works great in the return grill and I'm pleased with its performance.

A:  Yes I believe they ate glued

          by|May 6, 2020

A:  It depends on how your filter holder is designed. Ours has 2 grooves (on the sides) that the filters slide into. We have a Coleman that really moves a lot of air, and haven't had any problems with filters being sucked into the blower motor area. The filtering material isn't nearly as dense as the pleated type of filters. Therefore, when the furnace runs, the filters don't move. They will catch the larger dust particles. As for the filter's construction, they are glued and stapled at the corners to prevent them from falling apart. Hope this answers the question. Regards.

A:  Both the metal and non-metal fiberglass filters would have the same airflow rate. Both would also be glued to the borders.
