A: That depends on local code and what the appliance manufacturer requires. A wall thimble is always required, no matter the substrate you are passing through. A PVL PelletVent installation manual is available at www.duraventretail.com

Q:I am trying to figure out the diameter of the wall opening for this to fit in. I assume a 3" pipe pass through with 1" airgap so the outside diameter must be 4". Is the outside diameter 4"?

Answer This Question
A: This should pass through a wall thimble or ceiling support box, not an air gap. These items will provide the proper clearance. Please refer to the PVL installation instructions at www.duraventretail.com or refer to the appliance manufacturer installation instructions for proper venting procedures and practices.

A: I believe that the O.D. for this thimble is 3 5/8" Might be a little small but should work with an extra thick bead of hight temp silicone on the outside.

Q:Can I use it for a wood-burning stove

Answer This Question
A: In general, a 3" space between the wall and pipe is needed with a metal shield for wood stove venting. This is only 1". Also the size is to small for a typical wood burning appliance. The O.D. of the opening is either 3 5/8" or 4 5/8" for pellet stove pipe applications.
