Answer This Question

A:  I had to splice the cable. Each strand of wire will fit through one port. Remember when the cable is cut one will use a connector for each side. So, you are using two connectors for one light.

A:  First pull apart the silicone filled connector. Then push only one strand at a time and then once through the holes twist the wires together and crimp the copper tube over the wire. Then slide the tube with the silicon back into the part with the wire.

A:  Vince- The DryCrimp connector is compatible with #14 gage wire and should have no trouble getting one through each port. A:  Each strand must go through a separate hole. The connectors will handle 3 separate wires easily. (I have not tried to connect more than 3 single wires in one connector.) You must separate the dual wires from each other. to connect 2 dual wires to each other, you must use 2 connectors with one wire from each pair connected to one wire from the other pair. You can connect 3 dual wires similarly as you would 2 dual wires.

Q:What crimping tools work effectively with these crimps? I know the Ideal C24 crimper (Buchanan) works nicely for these but $60 plus is a bit pricey for a one time project.

A:  There are other 4 way crimpers out there. I personally would not use anything less than a 4 way crimping tool. These connectors get pulled on by landscapers installing new irrigation plumbing and/or installing more lighting, etc.

A:  Hi MH- Thanks for your question. The DryCrimp Silicone Filled Wire Connector requires the use of an indent style of crimp connector. We can suggest the King Krimper tool found on HomeDepot.com: http://www.homedepot.com/p/King-Krimper-14-in-Crimping-Tool-46550/205072210

A:  Any crimping tool would work but you get a tighter connection with C24.

Q:Where would you crimp brass piece middle or end

A:  I always put the crimper at the proximal end of the copper piece. In the small one, there isn't any room to crimp in other than the middle. In the larger one, it may crimp a little closer to the proximal end.

A:  In the small one, there is no choice but to crimp in the middle. In the larger one, I put the crimper as close as I can to the proximal end of the piece.

A:  I inserted the copper crimp sleeve into my 4 way crimping tool until the bell is just outside the tool. Then give it a strong squeeze

A:  As tightness both would be the same but crimping in the middle gives you more room for errors (such as crimping off the edge)

A:  It comes with 25 large and 25 small crimps. I used the small crimps for my landscape lights ( 12 gauge wire) and made the crimp around the middle. All connections were tight and didn't have any wiggle.

Q:Does the connector come with both sizes of crimps?

              Answer This Question

A:  Yes. It comes with 25 of each, I believe. I ordered extras, as I used more of the larger pieces when I was putting together my wiring. The package comes with 25 each of the silicone-filled pieces and the larger pieces that the wires fit through. If you are just attaching a light to the end of the wire, you will be crimping a 16-gage and a 12-gage wire - a small one will do the trick. When, however you are crimping 2 12-gage wires and a 16-gage, as when adding a light in the middle, you need to use the larger copper piece.

A:  Yes, 25 small crimps and 25 large crimps. I only used the small crimps on mine but figured I'd save the large ones in case I have to go back and replace a light or something.

A:  Yes, the connector comes with both crimp sixes.
