A:  DreamLine SlimLine shower bases must be installed directly up against studs in a bed of sand-mix mortar. You cannot drill into the tiling flanges of the SlimLine shower bases to fasten them to anything with screws as doing this will damage the base and void the warranty. You also cannot install the base to drywall because then, you will have the tiling flanges exposed instead of behind the acrylic QWALL panels. Once the shower base is installed, then you will put up 1/2" thick backer board and install it so that it sits 1/8" above the tiling flanges. The acrylic QWALL panels will then be trimmed to size and glued to the backer board. The QWALL acrylic wall panels will cover the backer board and the tiling flanges of the shower base. A:  For installation, this shower base must be installed in a bed of sand-mix mortar. Right out of the box, without any mortar beneath it to support the base, the weight limit is approximately 250 LBS. Once the base is installed in the mortar bed and once the mortar cures, it will be rock solid and able to support much more weight than 250 LBS. A:  Unfortunately, we do not offer any shorter acrylic walls for these kits. You could purchase the shower base on its own and add on the similar QWALL-VS acrylic walls which can have the height trimmed to fit your 57" space. The QWALL-VS has a consistent vertical subway tile pattern on it and since the pattern is consistent on the entirety of each panel, the width and the height can be trimmed. The model number for the shower base on its own is DLT-1132602 and the compatible QWALL-VS product is model # SHBW-1560760-00. A:  The shower base must be installed in a bed of mortar directly up against your studs. Do not fasten the tile flanges of the shower base to the studs because this will damage the base and void the warranty. After the base is installed, 1/2" thick backer board must be installed around the base. Then, you will trim the acrylic walls to fit the opening and glue them to the backer board using an acrylic-safe construction adhesive ("tub surround" adhesive). A:  The back wall piece must be trimmed to fit your opening. The base will have a rough-in dimension of 60" wide. After you install the base and put up 1/2" backer board around 3 sides of the base, you will be left with less than 60" of width across the back wall.
