A:  It has intake vents on the top behind the trim and the heat discharge vent is above the "flames" and is blown down and to the front. It seems to be a very effective design and heats very well. I had the same question and decided to take a chance. Glad I did.

A:  All electric heaters are basically the same as far as power consumption/btu delivery. I have not yet used it in a situation that I can tell you how much electricity it will use. I will be using it in our rv which will save money either with hook-ups or dry docking and running our inverter generator. It will cut way down on our lp usage.
