Q:Why is it called "Cast-Iron Steel" if it's made out of PLASTIC? This is misleading marketing and false advertising! Whoever labelled this should be fired, fined, and taught that this is evil and wrong. I'm ashamed that HomeDepot would allow for this.

Answer This Question
A: The top is 2mm thick and rated for light foot traffic. However, this register is intended for Wall or Ceiling installation. Search for ST614. It is recommended that you get a heavy-duty floor register if you plan to install in a high foot traffic area.

Q:Is it possible to paint these?
And can they be use as register and as grille?

1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: There is a lacquer applied after painting, so you would need to sand the surface, if you wanted to repaint the item. If you remove the plastic damper box, it effectively becomes a grille, but why would you do that, when you can buy the grille for less.

A: It’s difficult to provide a definitive answer. I use them in the floor so occasionally the tab gets bumped all the way open or closed. However, I don’t think that the control would slip if mounted on a wall.

A: They don't seal 100%, but I don't know of any that do. However, they do stay at whatever point that you put them. I think they are pretty good.

A: This stays open, don't worry about that. I have found one big problem. The front plate is metal but all the rest of this register which is the mechanism is plastic. I had one in my living room which is directly above the furnace and received the maximum heat. The plastic melted and got so soft, I had to replace it. None of the ones in the rest of the house did that.

Answer This Question
A: There is a lever reachable past the grate that opens and closes, so you can close the grate. But this grate does not allow "directional" airflow adjustment.

A: The lever are on the end of item. Finger fits in larger section which allows you to slip it side to side.
