Q:I am replacing an older shelf that broke and want to make sure that this product will fit into the old hole that now sits in the tile wall. What are the dimensions of the end that actually fits into the space in the tile (as opposed to the dimensions of the entire piece)?

A: It is a surface mount shelf, meaning that it is not recessed into the wall. It's not meant to be mounted on top of other tile; it's meant to be glued to the wall the tile is glued to with the same thin set that's used to adhere the tiles.

A: The mounts are recessed for mounting to wall, field tiles have to be removed and are 8" by 2" the shelf from back corner to the front of the shelf is about 8 1/2". The above photo does not accurately depict this shelf.

Q:How do I install this shower caddy while I'm applying new tile to the shower wall? I don't want to attach it to the new tile being apply. Is there a way to apply to the tile dryboard and then tile around it?

A: Yes, that’s how my contractor did it. He attached these to the hardeebacker and then tiled around them.
