Answer This Question

A:  No clamps are needed in irrigation applications. The barbed ends hold the tubing in place.

A:  Not usually with standard water pressure..

A:  No clamps required. These fittings are designed to be used with 1/2 DIG tubbing.

A:  As long as you use same or compatible tubing they don’t leak. I bought different brands and had to use hose clamps to keep them secure.

        by|Feb 11, 2022

A:  No. The drip line tubing should hold due to the barbs on the fitting. If you want you can very briefly heat up the tubing to help it form better or put a ring clamp on it, but not necessary as long as your line PSI is witching normal limits 25psi or below).

A:  Our barbed fittings are designed to be used without the need for any hose clamps as long as your tubing has an inside diameter of .570” to .600”. If your tubing has a larger inside diameter or the tubing has been stretched, then the fittings will leak. Q:I'm getting leakage with these in a new 25PSI system, though the adapter is rated for 30PSI. Other similar products say a clamp is "required" for barbed inserts like this, to avoid leaking. Why doesn't this product have such a recommendation? Or is there some reason why this one supposedly doesn't need clamps? Rather than clamping every elbow in my system I'm more inclined to replace all of them with the compression elbows (where the tube goes in the adapter rather than the adapter going in the tube). Thoughts?

A:  In general, DIG brown barbed fittings including the elbow tee and coupler are designed to be used with all brown PC dripline used in the market today including DIG. The barbed fittings do not require clamps and can operate up to 30 PSI without leaking. If the barbed fittings used are leaking, make sure to have a 25 PSI pressure regulator, as pressure may be high. If the elbow barbed fittings continue leaking, cut the drip line, remove the old elbow, and insert a new one. If leaking continues, my suggestion is to contact DIG customer Support at 800-344-1172 with this issue. Regarding the compression fittings, the .700 OD compression fittings will hold the drip tubing or dripline on the outside diameter and can hold to higher pressure. DIG

A:  I have not had any leakage. Maybe your tubing is too big? I had to use a heat gun on the black tube to get the elbows in. Make sure both barbs are inside the tubing on each side.

A:  No need to use any sort of hose clamps with our barbed connectors as long as you have your pressure regulated down to 25 PSI. . Please give our technical service department a call (800) 322-9146 and we can troubleshoot your system further.

A:  These fittings are made only for the thin brown hose. They will NOT work in the black thicker hose lines. If the brown waterline is hot from the sun and water pressure is immediately turned on some time they can leak. Instead of putting an actual hose clamp, try installing a plastic wire zip tie as they work well. The zip ties are easy to install and will not cut the line over time or rust. The hose has to have a little time to conform to the fittings.

A:  If you are getting leaks, the inner diameter (ID) for the tubing may be larger than the outer diameter (OD) of the fitting. It would be simplest to switch to compression fittings depending on your budget.

A:  This fitting is intended for larger diameter tubing (.700 OD x .600 ID). You probably couldn't get your smaller tubing onto the fitting.

A:  DIG's 17 mm brown barbed fittings work with all drip tubing with ID .550 ID up to .600 ID. The 17 mm barbs fittings use the inside diameter of the tubing to hold, so the OD or the outer diameter is not important. It is important to know that the fittings should be installed in a system that use a 25 PSI pressure regulator. DIG
