Q:Does this motor work in a Champion RWC-50 evaporative cooler?

Answer This Question
A: I looked on Champions website, and this motor will work. You can purchase actual Champion motors for a comparable price, however, that was their cheapest motor. The other models were significantly more expensive. I have this motor and I have been abusing it nonstop with no issues.

A: The motor will work in this unit. The pulley that comes in the kit is a 3-1/2 inch adjustable pulley. The pulley used in the RWC50 cooler is a 3 inch fixed pulley. Either use the existing pulley from the manufacturer, find a 3 inch fixed pulley, or if using the adjustable pulley, adjust the pulley so that the diameter is 3 inches or less with the belt installed.

Q:How are you able to switch speeds? Is there a wiring kit available?
by|Mar 21, 2021

Answer This Question
A: Switching speeds is accomplished by the 5-way switch you use to control the cooler. When you go from low to high speed, the switch deactivates one winding inside the motor and activates another. There are instructions that come with the motor that explain wiring, but please make sure you know what you are doing before proceeding.

A: The motor switches speeds based on what you have controlling it - a wall switch or thermostat. The wall switch as a low cool or high cool mode - you choose, but it will not change until you manually change it to another mode. If hooked to a thermostat, the low and high modes are determined by temperature and the parameters you have set it to. If you have any additional questions, please call Dial at 800-350-3425.

Answer This Question
A: You may have to check your user manual to verify the specs of the motor needed, but if it mounts to a 56Z frame and the cooler requires a 1/2HP 2-spd motor, then it should work.

A: I don’t know. I used it to replace a 1936 Sears cement mixer motor (1/4 hp). It seems to work fine.
