Q:Refill bags seem pricey. Any strategies for stretching them? Has anyone tried throwing dirt or cat litter on top of poop and not flushing every single time? Or anything else people suggest $75 for 45 flushes is too steep.

A:  I live on 80 acres out in the middle of nowhere. I pee outside! At $1.50 a flush, not wasting one on pee...saving them for the heavy duty stuff!

A:  For the dry flush to work, you can't have too much built-up. you only have so much space to use.I wish they would make it at least a 4 pack of refill cartridges. $81.00 in less than a month is a lot of money to use the toilet, when you don't dare urinate in it. I use another systme for urinating.

A:  they are getting higher every day, and no one has refills at this time, company does , but shipping from them high, guess they padding billfolds'. can use kitty litter if smooth, but sometimes pokes hole in internal bag.

A:  Use cat litter. This was the cheapest that I found.

A:  I have used eight of these cartridges from Home Depot already and I have found that using the pine shavings that you would buy for a guinea pig cage, hamster cage... Work the best at stretching your flushes. Cat litter was too heavy, sawdust was not fragrant, dirt when wet was too heavy and turned out to be very messy 4 cleanup, I also tried sprays inside cartridges with the philosophy of if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down. The strong fragrances did not help with numerous liquid deposits. The pine shavings have worked excellent for me. Hope this helps.

A:  When you see the red line on the silver lining and by the way the red line is a half an inch wide so it's hard to miss.... You have one more flush left. I also can judge by the depth that gets shallower and shallower after each flush when I am hitting the end of my cartridge Supply. I have used at least eight of these cartridges so far.

A:  You can't. Varies depending on the size of the "load." It's usually about 14 or 15 a cartridge. At $1.50 a flush...make it count!

A:  you can not just how full pot getting they say 17 but I have never gotten more than 15. the urine and t-pee paper fills it up faster. when I got mine two years ago refill price was 49.00 now 72.00 so at this price you have to make every flush count. getting very high on refills, and company has not given us bio refills yet. these prices are climbing fast, so looking for another source with bio bags. if you are not using it a lot at lake or fishing spots then not bad, but every day little on the high dollar size. wish they had put in counter, and urine diverter.

Q:We a considering a dry flush toilet in our fish house. We typically spend weekends on the lake and would maybe flush about 4-5 times during that time. Is it fine to leave waste in the cartridge from weekend to weekend until the cartridge is full?

A:  Yes, the liner material is made of a product that once the toilet has been activated it makes an air tight seal that will contain any odors that are present or would normally escape from a regular porta-potty style unit. I use my dry flush for camping, hunting, and ice fishing as well. This past season, it was about a month or so between the end of ice fishing and camping, my dry flush unit was half full toward the end of the ice season but I never emptied it between the months time that it sat until camping season with not so much as a hint of an odor present in the ice house. My only complaint of the toilet is that periodically when it gets over half full is that youj almost have to push down on the contents to better evenly distribute the contents so that it doesn't build up so much in just the center portion causing liquid to rise rather high and possibly spilling during the next flush cycles. Since I started to better distribute the contents, the problem has been resolved.

A:  Yes, We have done the same with no problem in the summer, but not sure about winter months. I find the refills to be rather expensive and would consider a different system.

A:  I use it in a fish house also. I have been changing it after a weekend of use. I think in the winter you could leave in in for a while.. but in the summer.. I changed it after a weekend of use. It works great!

A:  I use this in a weekend cabin. Easy and no odor, no mixing compost, no dealing with the compost tray, no cranky 12 volt fan, no holes though the roof. No outhouse in the middle if the night. It does sometimes need two flushes to cover everything. I guess you weigh the convenience (and this thing has been super convenient) against the cost of refills.
