A:  The depth adjustment scale , located on the right front of your planer, indicates the finished thickness of your workpiece. One rotation of the depth adjustment crank is equal to 1/16" (1.6 mm), half rotation is equal to 1/32" (0.8 mm), etc.

A:  I don't remember if there is an internal automatic depth lock.  There isn't an external one.  But the depth control mechanism is similar to a nut on a bolt (or worm gear) in that there is too much mechanical disadvantage for back pressure from the cutting head platform to cause the depth adjustment wheel to turn.  I've never had the depth wheel move from where I had set it except when I accidentally bumped it. That said, if you want to keep the same depth from one planing session to a later one, I recommend always verifying the depth again, both by reading the depth gauge and measuring a test cut.  It's too easy to bump the depth wheel when walking by or forget you used the planner for something else in-between. Another option is to use the depth stop wheel on the other side of the planer.  You can change the stop calibration to get any depth you want within its range.  Just don't forget later if you have changed it from the labeled nominal dimensions.  Also, I find the stop mechanism to have a little slop, so expect to need to fine-tune the depth each time you change it if you want tighter precision (like +/- 0.01")

A:  I just watched the video again and see what you mean.  I've never had it move like that on me.  Perhaps their depth wheel itself is coming loose or otherwise has developed some slop and as they started planing in the video, the handle floated from one end of the slop to the other.

A:  I take that back.  I went out and tested mine and the handle does have about 5 degrees of rotational slop.  That's how far the handle can move from engaging some later stage of mechanism when moved in one direction to engaging in the other direction.  But this has never affected the cutting depth, and I've run like 60 linear feet of 6 inch wide lumber through it at a time, and verified that the last piece had the same resulting thickness as the first. In general I've been reasonably happy with this product.

A:  I measure 43" to the top of the posts from the floor and 32" to the bed (which the wood slides on). Since the cutter head raises & lowers on the posts, it can be above or below the height of the posts depending on the setting.

A:  Fairly easy to do. Takes less than an hour. I have been planing mostly oak so get more life out of the helical.

A:  I haven’t done it myself but I know it can be done. I think there’s a company that sells the helix conversion online. Also some Youtube videos show it being done.

A:  I would not put this on any mitre saw stand!!! It would be too unstable, this needs to be on a stable surface

A:  No. This is not compatible with the mitre saw stand. Dewalt does have a specific heavy duty stand available for this unit

A:  There should be 2 boxes, one for the planer and one for the table. Labeling may be wrong but I got 2 boxes

A:  I can't remember how many boxes per se, I think two is right. If you have all four items shown, you have everything. That is the table or stand, that was in one box. Then the actual planer with the two trays and a spare set of blades. You did buy the right planer, unless you can afford helical, which I couldn't.

A:  I received mine last year but I think it came in just two boxes. One for the planner and one for the stand. Very happy with planner, it is a beast.

A:  To the best of my recollection, it was only 2 boxes. One for the planer and one for the cart.

A:  Use a pease of plywood as a base then place the board on it and secure the work! Then set your planner to cut the right amount of metal from your smaller peace.
