A: It’s removable. I wouldn’t machine wash it but would spot clean it instead. More of a big foam pad really. Still it’s better than nothing at all.

Q:Looking online, the manual for the shelf (Step 7) says to drill 11/32" holes into the wall for the wall anchors. Is a drill required to attach the shelf to the wall securely? If not, how do you get the wall anchors into the wall without one? The instructions themselves do not specify needing a drill (although it says a "screw gun" can assist). Rather, the need for "drilling" is implicit in Step 7, which I found surprising. Thanks for clearing this up.

A: The dimensions are as follows. Shelf unit will measure 42" Wide x 11.25" deep x 15.5" high. Bench will measure 42" wide x 16.5" deep x 18.25" high.
