A:  Adhesive shelf liner is made from PVC material. The range of products made from PVC are extensive including PVC piping, vinyl floors, outdoor furniture, wall papers, toys, and even automobile interiors. The main focus of the use of PVC when it comes to children has been in toy products where children have the potential to put those toys into their mouth. Shelf liner is not a product a child is likely to put into their mouth. Shelf liner made from PVC are considered safe for use. Regarding vapor emissions, the amount of vapor emitted by PVC products reduces over time. Also, the amount of vapor emitted is higher when the temperature is higher. Since shelf liner is used at room temperature, the amount of vapor emitted would be minimal. By comparison, PVC products used in the interior of a car would have much higher vapor emissions after sitting in the hot sun which is a good reason to always let your car air out before getting in on a hot day.

                          Answer This Question

A:  If the sides of the cabinet are clean and smooth and the moisture is not excessive, the adhesive liner will hold. If the wood sides are porous or rough to the touch, that could cause the liner to not adhere as good as it would on a totally smooth surface.
