Q:Where do you unscrew this to replace batteries? I can only unscrew the end where its turned on and off

A: I needed two pairs of pliers to get mine off; first the black end cap, then the red part. The threads were caked with either sealant or corrosion. Had to clean them with a wire brush, then silicone grease. But I still like the flashlight because it is much more reliable than the Maglites I've suffered with for years.

A: As I remember,the end cap unscrews and that allows you to insert the batteries.

A: I doubt it...I just use two AA batts. Anyway, even if they did fit in the barrel you would have to remove them during the charging cycle because there is no way to charge them in the unit.

A: The LED can't handle lithium cells but it works fine with NIMH rechargeables. Some of these have a wider diameter than regular alkaline cells so they have to be pushed into the flashlight forcefully, but they last for a long time before needing recharging.

A: Ollie, they are replaceable. You will need to unscrew the tail cap to remove the old batteries then replace them with new, alkaline batteries.
