Q:Pictures displays the copper side as MIP, yet the description claims it is NPT. What is it and could it be used in a brass female?

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry on the NIBCO 3/4 in. CPVC-CTS and Copper Slip x MIPT Transition Union. NPT is national pipe thread, this is a standardized tapered pipe threaded commonly used in threaded plumbing joinery. MIP is Male Iron Pipe for the gender of the pipe threaded. MIP has male NPT tampered threading. This will work with a female brass NPT or FIP end connection. If you have additional questions, you can reach a NIBCO Technical Services Advisor, M-F 8am - 5pm EST, by phone at (888) 446-4226.

              Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry on the NIBCO 1/2 in. Lead-Free Copper and CPVC CTS Slip-Joint x Slip-Joint Transition Union. This union is a NPSM (National Pipe-Straight Mechanical) thread form, (i.e., the union does not seal on these threads, the threads are a mechanical means to hold the two components together). Unions are not standardized on this thread so NIBCO’s union pieces do not work in conjunction with other manufacturers; the thread form is proprietary. If you have additional questions, you can reach a NIBCO Technical Services Advisor, M-F 8am - 5pm EST, by phone at (888) 446-4226.
