Q:The finishing type says high gloss prefinished - is this finished with an oil or water based sealer? Any additional information on the finishing would be helpful. We installed these floors next to old maple floors that we are getting refinished to match.

A:  Hi Andrea! The urethane finish with aluminum oxide as am additive are not water or oil baseed. The stain and finishes are UV cured and applied during the manufacturing process for all Bruce floors. Our floors are pre-finished therefore we do not have the resources available to advise on refinishing. We suggest inquiring with a refinishing expert, your locoal flooring dealers maybe able to recommend an expert as they typically have well-established relationships with refinishers.   Thank you for taking the time to contact us, for further assistance contact our Customer Services Team at 1-866-243-2726, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. EST.Information can also be found on our website Florexpert.ahfproducts.com   Have a wonderful day!

Q:Hello, can this product be installed on a concrete slab, perhaps by being glued down?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello Sharon! Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your question. While it is possible to glue ¾” solid hardwood directly to a concrete subfloor, it can be a costly and labor-intensive installation. These issues are due to only the longest and straightest boards being usable, which increases the waste factor and leads to additional time needed for culling and general installation. For more information, please view our solid hardwood installation instructions. Follow link: bit.ly/42HIJ1W. Once again, thank you for contacting AHF Products. I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm EST by e-mail at productsupport@ahfproducts.com or by phone at 1-866-243-2726.

A:  Hello Rick, Thank you for contacting AHF Products. Although not required, laminated rosin paper or 15# builders felt (tar paper) acts as a moisture retarder and may be used to reduce movement caused by changes in subfloor moisture, thereby reducing cupping and warping. (This is especially helpful over crawl spaces and basements.) In addition, the use of these materials can give the flooring a more solid feeling, reduce sound transfer, prevent noise caused by minor irregularities and debris, and make it easier to slide the hardwood together across the surface of the subfloor.  However, if you are gluing your floor down rather than mechanically fastening, you must glue directly to the subfloor.  Please click on this link to view complete installation instructions:  http://tinyurl.com/2s3mw4cv I hope this information is helpful. Q:Can we use this type of wood for our staircase?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello there! Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your question. We appreciate your inquiry. This flooring can be used on stairs along with the use of matching stairnose model #T7390 for finishing the front edge in addition to any open ends of each of the stairs. We recommend mechanically fastening the flooring using staples or cleats. Precise cutting is crucial due to the impracticality of using transitions on stairs that would be traditionally used on a floor. Once again, thank you for contacting AHF Products. I hope this information is helpful. Q:Is there a fastener that works better than the other, staples vs nails? Also, I am guessing 2 " long to get through the tongue, the subfloor and into the floor joist. Please advise.

              Answer This Question

A:  Hello Jason! Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your question. For mechanical fastened installation of this solid hardwood flooring product, we recommend the use of staples or cleats using a 3/4" blind fastening tool. We don't have a preference of one versus the other and this would be whichever works best for you. The recommended length for either fastener is 1-1/2" - 2".  Once again, thank you for contacting AHF Products. I hope this information is helpful.
