Answer This Question

A:  Hi Jimbo, Thanks for reaching out. The 411 accessory will transition 3-1/4" x 10" to 6" round. The round portion of this model is off set to one side. It is NOT centered.

Q:What is the recommended way to secure this transition to the microwave exhaust adapter? The longer sides bulge out. I bent those in, even then its not a tight fit on my over the range microwave top exhaust adapter that's 3"x9-3/4". The adapter walls are only 5/8" tall. Once the adapter is attached and microwave is re-installed, I can't access the adapter, it's in the gap between microwave and the bottom cabinet shelf. I have seen people taping the gap between this fitting and the hole in the bottom cabinet shelf. That does not seal the gap between the adapter and this fitting. Does Broan-Nutone or Home Depot have a recommendation?

A:  Thanks for your question. Generally, I have seen this unit taped to the top of the microwave, using HVAC silver tape (not duct tape). In your situation, the rectangular hole in the cabinet does not appear to be large enough to allow one to place pieces of tape in this fashion after the unit is placed on top of the microwave. Might I suggest the following (in lieu of removing the microwave and enlarging the cabinet hole). Before installing this duct adapter, secure pieces of silver HVAC tape so they contact the top of the microwave. Use strips wide enough to reach above the hole in the cabinet (two strips connected on the long edge if needed). Pull these pieces taught up and pin them flat down to the cabinet. Install the duct adapter (careful not to touch the sticky pieces of tape) then remove the pins holding the tape back and secure to the sides of the duct adapter.

A:  We would recommend contacting the microwave manufacturer for their recommendation on how to vent their product.

A:  Thanks for your question. In general, I have seen this secured using HVAC silver tape (not duct tape). To do this, the hole in the cabinet must be large enough so one can insert pieces of tape after the adapter is slid in place.

A:  Contrary to the community and NuTone's answer this model #411 vent is NOT Offset on the long side! It's centered. It IS offset on the short side. In other words: If you look at it from a front view with the 10" rectangle at it's widest, the circular 6" part is exactly centered as it goes up from that 10" rectangle. If you look at it from the skinny side view (rectangle now being 3 1/4" wide from this angle) the 6" circular part is offset so that it's flat on one side and the remaining width of the circular part is about 3" to one side of that 3 1/4" rectangle at the base. It would allow you to place the microwave vent on top to connect to a 6" vent pipe almost touching the back wall. I'm looking for an offset on the long side, any tips?
