Q:Does this come with the bolts that help tighten down the toilet?

Answer This Question

A:  No. This tile guide is installed around a flange to help set tile. It has nothing to do with bolting the toilet to the flange.

by|Sep 8, 2019

A:  No. It does not. Those bolts attach to the toilet flange. The tile guide is nothing more than a spacer.

    by|Sep 5, 2019

A:  No, it does not. It is just the piece of plastic that helps give you straight lines to tile up to around your toilet flange.

      by|Sep 5, 2019

A:  Thank You for your interest in the the Award Winning Toilet Flange Tile Guide. The product does not come with any bolts. Did you know that there is no ANSI (American National Standards Institute) standard requiring the tile installer to have to completely tile and seal the floor up to the flange. They only have to tile enough of the floor so that the installed toilet covers the edges of the tile. This could leave huge areas left open and susceptible to rotting and deadly mold. It's up to you to protect your property and the health of your family. The Toilet Flange Tile Guide is the only product available that seals the floor around the toilet flange.

        by|Sep 4, 2019

A:  No, it is only the tile guide.

          by|Sep 5, 2019

A:  No bolts. Just the "guide". It wasn't even necessary -- easier to cut the tiles and don't buy this. Also, the plastic guide might still be visible when you install the toilet so you willl need to check the footprint of the toilet.

Q:I already put down cement board can I place this on top of it?

A:  You could because this is just a guide to make the tile spacing look nicer (under your toliet where no one will ever see it). It is not subjected to a load, all of the load will be on your toilet flange. I have done several toilet installs with new flooring and have come to conclusion that this guide really isn't necessary. If I'm really bring fussy, I cut the hole for the toilet out of the tile using an angle grinder (several how to videos on-line) but even then I'm the only one that appreciates my impressive skills with the angle grinder. Just get the tile as close to the flange as you can and move on to your next project!

            by|May 6, 2023

A:  Yes. This works great when it's on the same layer as the tile (i.e. on top of cement board).

              by|Sep 8, 2019

A:  Yes. You are supposed to put it over your cement board. Think of it as being placed instead of a tile, so that you have square edges to tile up to...

Q:How do I adhere this to a wooden subfloor with wax residue from previous wax ring?

                    Answer This Question

A:  The toilet flange has a circular groove which is filled with a ring of silicone from a tube or silicone cartridge in a caulking gun. It is then centered over the toilet flange and screwed to the sub floor with 4 wood screws. Design is such that it should seal well even if there is some "Wax" infiltration into the subfloor material. If the subfloor has become unstable due to the wax infiltration you will have to cut out the sub flor in that area and replace.

A:  I would research what could be used to dissolve the wax, you might have to sand down the wood floor to remove the wax.

A:  Clean the old residue off before you affix the flange. The area should be clean and dry. Silicone the flange bottom and attach with deck screws or durock cement board screws.

A:  I am totaling renovating 3 bathrooms at our house and using these for the Marble floor install. The first two I had to cut an "L" notch out of each of the 4 tiles around the toilet flange tile guide. Wet tile table saw makes this relatively easy, except in marble or natural tile you have to really look closely at the "Grain" of the tile or you may have tiles break from the natural fractures and elements in the tile; particularly when cutting out "L" shaped notches. The last one was most difficult as I had to cut two tiles with "U" notches to go around the Flange Tile Guide. Once again I used the Wet tile table saw; cutting a straight line from outside edge to where the bottom of the "U" will be, cutting another line about 3/8 to 1/2 inch from the previous; break the thin piece out, cut another straight line about 3/8 to 1/2 inch from the previous; and keep doing so until you have cut the entire "U" out of the tile - breaking each thin segment off at the Base of the "U" where it will form the edge mating with the Toilet Flange Tile Guide. The tile edge will be a bit rough; but it does the job. Takes time, but works pretty well.

A:  The holes on the Tile Guide will line up when stacked. After you adhere/silicone the first Tile Guide to the sub floor simply apply adhesive/silicone to the top of the first Tile Guide and then place the second Tile Guide on top. Press them together so there is a good seal. If you choose to use screws place a little adhesive/silicone onto of the screw heads .

A:  I don't think you should NEED to stack these, as it is probably just better to fill around with a little grout. Should you still WANT to stack though, you probably only need to remove the label from the bottom guide, place the 2nd one on top, and then use the screw holes or an adhesive to bind the two together. You might even consider filling in with grout to form a seal between any gaps. That's my best guess and I hope it helps.

A:  Well, I didn't know it is stackable. I would pile it up with PU adhesive in between. Then, I would give another layer of adhesive to make the pile a single unit. However, I don't think this is a good route to go. You might have other options available.
